I do mostly in-town driving, probably 80%. I vtec often, but rarely redline, always use Mobil 93 octane. I drive the car about three times a week. I've done four track days in those three years.

After 20K miles in three years of ownership, I got curious to see what the OE plugs looked like and I wanted to verify that no problems existed with the spark plugs tube seals. I'm glad I checked them or I never would have seen the oil in the tube. That issue will be addressed at my next oil change, at which time I'll do a valve adjustment and replace the valve cover gasket and tube seals.

The NGK IFR7G-11KS (stock number 7746) is NGK's recommended replacement plug for the 2003 model year. I had purchased them when I decided that I'd check the OE plugs. I paid less than $10 each. The engine seemed more responsive after the change, but that's probably all in my head. I'm confident that I'll have no problems with these plugs. I'll definitely report here if I do.

I had been considering Krank Vents until I saw Billman post about his reasons for avoiding them.

if you replace the tube seals and it still does that my guess would be a faulty valve seal. thats the only thing that would allow oil to enter the combustion chamber. the valve would draw oil down when it opens. thats a shot in the dark but nowadays you never know. Those being the original plugs and the car getting all sorts of different driving habits for the first 20k really wouldnt bug me until i changed something and noticed it was still there. Its prob just the tube seal. just a few idears

Yes, the leak will eventually short out the coil and cause misfires.

I won't get into details, but I don't support krank vents and none of my customers will ever get them.

Do you have a link to that post?

He posted within the last couple of weeks (I think) that he believes that Krank Vents place undue stresses on the tube seals which the seals were not designed to tolerate, increasing the chances that they'll leak. I hope I'm stating his position accurately. Hopefully Billman will chime in and help clarify.

copper plugs are ALWAYS better performing than an iridium or platinum plug, they just need to be changed more often. I personally put copper plugs in everything, they cost $1.50 a plug but only last about 10k or so so you have to change them a little more often.

I highly doubt that is anyones postion against crank vents
