Default Oily valve cover

Noob here. Looking to purchase an ap1 within the next few days. Car drove fine no hesitation in the motor. Compression seems fine (haven't tested but just how the motor responded). The valve cover where the spark plugs are/motor cap seemed to have an oily residue along the top of the cover. Haven't checked the sides or anything but should I be worried about this purchase? Thanks for any advise.

Just based on that alone, probably not.

The valve cover has 4 rubber seals that go over the plug holes. It's possible that if the valve cover was removed, these aren't sealing right.

Get a proper car inspection before buying. Car can feel fine yet can hide underlying problems. Do more research on s2ki about buying an AP1.

How much oil is there? It could just be the rubber seals need replaced. The rubber seals might be the original ones from more than 12 years ago. They might of lost their seal when a valve adjustment was done maybe?
