Default Ok I am getting confused on AP1/AP2

Just so you know, I used the "search" feature and from what I have seen on these forums I have gathered that the AP1 has the 2.0l and the AP2 has the 2.2l

Then I see post about the AP2 revving 1k rpms lower than the AP1. So the AP1 revs to 9200? I test drove an 05 today and it revved to 8k alittle above.

I dont really want a bunch of people to start coming in here flaming each other about which one is better. I just want a simple basic statistic comparison.

Thanks in advance.

with all the arguing in the board, it seems the ap1 is out right faster but the ap2 is better for daily driving. but all magazine test results are similar between the 2. but the suspension and rim/tire combo makes for a stabler rear end exiting corners resulting in a faster car on the track.
so your best of both worlds would be to buy an ap1 and put a ap2 rear subframe in!!!

Thanks for that advice.

I believe I will be picking up an 00 S2k sometime in the near future. All I could wish for was the looks of the newer S2k's.

I'd recommend '02 and above.

2002 gets a glass rear window and a few less issues.

02's are out of my price range for what I am looking for temporarily.

I am looking at an 00' with 62k miles for $14,950. Looking at exactly $300 a month for financing over 5 years with no down payment.

I found an 02' with 36k miles for $19,888. Id be looking at $344 a month for 6 years.

I guess Ill just have to debate on which one I really want.

Are you wondering about redlines ONLY, or want a broader comparison?

Officially Honda says 9000rpm for AP1, 8000rpm for AP2. Dyno charts indicate 8900 to 9000 for AP1, 8000 to 8200 for AP2.

There are a number of changes between the AP1 and AP2. Steering ratio, suspension, gearing, engine, and more... I have my own preference, as does everybody else here. Drive each car and get the one that suits you best.

I'm doubtful the AP1's faster than the AP2. If for no other reason than the AP2 has an effectively lower first 4 gears. If you watch BMI video's, typically the AP2's faster.

In all honestly the extra 1000 rpms is like 4wd on a truck. You use it once in a while. I wouldn't base my purchase decisions on it. I'd get the newest one you can afford because Honda's made improvements as the years went on. For example the '02 got a better transmission than the 00-01.

Have you looked at the insurance yet? I'd look at it first. You may be shocked and find that it kills the deal.

ive had both and i dissagree. if anything, the ap2 "feels" like it gets to 60 faster... but thats the magic of more torque for you... it may feel faster, but isnt.

but anyway my point is, its not slower.

Are you nuts? A five year payment on a 7 year old car? The car will be 12 years old and have a 150k miles on it when you make your last payment.

Ive driven both ap1 and ap2 and i would have say the ap1 feels faster because of the clutch. The Clutch on the Ap1's grip harder and its alot better to launch. The AP2's feel ALOT softer on the clutch and feels heavier. Also I dont really feel the 10 ft lbs torque on the Ap2 due to the larger wheels and tires. I knwo for a fact the Ap2's should be a little faster though, especially on the track.
