Default Old Pads with New Rotors

Is this a big No, No?
I went to have my cad plated rotors installed and the Honda Serv dept said using old pads will wear down the cad surface and cause a lot of brake noise....eventhough I only have 16K on my current pads. Has anyone done this and what was the result?
Thanks

I wouldn't want to do it. If the old rotors had any grooves, your pads will not mate well with the new rotors. The inverse grooves on your pads will try to wear new grooves in your new rotors.

The cad surface gets worn off quickly regardless if the pads you use.. it is the cad on the edges you get to keep.

I would have no problem putting the old pads on (assuming they are not a brand that is hard on rotors) if they looked reasonably flat.

New pads on freshly plated rotors seem to make a mess anyway.

I think this is a bit over simplified. Whatever pads he uses with his new rotors, they will need to be properly bedded in.

If you are sticking with the same kind of pads (same compound) and same kind of rotors, in many cases it is preferred to bed new pads on old rotors and new rotors on old pads. The reasons have to do with the chemical transfer of pad material to the rotor (and vice-versa).

Take you old pads and rub them on som 80 grit sandpaper to level out the surface. Then you can use them without any concern.

Thank you all for the responses. Well, I took off my wheels today and got a good look at the pads......I should put ome new ones on. The surface is really bad and they're a little worn for my taste....since I'm getting the rotors done, I might as well get the pads...now that I've really looked at them.
Thanks again
