Default OutputShaft and Prop Shaft

I'm going to be installing a differential sent from ricks. I need to know what to torque the bolts to, both the prop shaft and output shafts.

Thanks

Thanks

Also why not just tighten the bolts as much as possible?

The prop shaft bolts are famous for getting tighter over time and stripping when trying to remove. Don't over torque the bolts.

the service manual also says to replace these. i did as all my prop shaft bolt heads were ruined before i got under there.

im pretty sure evryone just re-uses them though without any major issues.

technically no bolts, no matter what they are used for, should be reused. theoretically once a bolt is torqued it streches and it looses it's strength. but no one ever does this.

It is ok to re-use the bolts, as long as you can properly torque them to:

24 ft-lbs for an AP1

36 ft-lbs for an AP2

Overtightening is over-stretching, leaving the bolt on the verge of snapping. Usually while your on the gas

Not sure about "tightening" over time, but I can tell you that they become one with the plate they pass through due to corrosion.

Well im going to wait until monday because the mechanic that is diagnosing my old diff has the bolts.....

Anyway So far i have everything ready for when i do get them. The ball joint came apart easy with some wd40 and a hammer. I had a fork but didnt want to ruin the rubber boot.

Is there a torque spec on the nut holding the lower ball joint (the one with the cotter pin)?
