Luckily my car doesn’t feel or sound like anything described, so I am sure all is well.
The place I brought my car to, Autowave, is a great independent Honda/Acura shop imo. Although they work on all Hondas, they really specialize in S2000 and NSX work. I try to take all cars (Honda/Acura that is) that I am interested in buying over here to get checked out before I bite the bullet. There has probably been 3 times that I have re-negotiated or backed out of a prospective car because of the problems Autowave has found. So I wanted to make sure that I got the s2000 looked at, even though I have already bought the car. I have known the owner and manager at this shop for 15 years, and I don't get charged for the service.
I am not very mechanical so I did ask them to check for any weaknesses the s2000 may have. And I know they looked at the usual stuff like brakes, suspension, frame, valves, gaskets, solenoids, belts, differential, clutch components, etc. They also said they would check for previous owners over-revving by using a computer. I don't know how that works...
hmm, well maybe I'll call tomorrow and ask them. I think it is something about pluging the car into their pgm scanner. Right now I'm not too worried about it.
And really, I am not trying to fight anyone here. I had a problem, and thought I would ask. I don't understand really why it is turning into this flame war.

I have owned my car for about a year and have hit the rev limiter once or twice and felt the engine cut off but other times I have gotten over 9K and I'm looking at the tach and it turns red all the way but no cut off. How does this work exactly?
Curious about what OP said about the ECU recording overrevs...
I'm pretty sure I read a case on the forums awhile ago where someone blew their motor and tried to have it replaced under warranty but the dealer checked the ecu and found the overrev and voided the warranty.
I don't remember the MY of the car though...were talking like 2-3 years ago when i read this. Does such a "tach memory" system exist?
