over reved ap1

Angry over reved ap1

hi,
i just over rev my engine by accident. its still drivable but engine light its on. dealership said i need new engine but didnt really told what is wrong with it.. what are my options if the engine is indeed blown.. thx -tom

I have a used AP1 engine sitting around that I'm not using.

Well if it's still drivable, probably just need some head work. Just hope a valve hasn't hit a piston!

Stop driving it. Yank the head and from there you will know what to do. Time to upgrade retainers and whatnot. Its not the end of the world. You could even have the stealership do it for about a grand.

Take it to a reputable shop that deals with S2000's, they'll know what to look for and exactly what needs repairing. Dealership is more likely to lie to you and/or not know what they are doing. DO NOT drive the car anymore, don't even start it.

what happens when you over rev? go past the rev limiter? downshift to the wrong gear?

question, but the s2000 doesn't have an automatic cut off when you over-rev it?

You can get valve float which has the valves in the wrong position. This can cause a piston to make contact with a valve.
