If memory serves correct, when I was researching on over revs before I made this thread, there has been cases of early ap2's cracking their retainers due to over revs.

In any case, it wouldn't hurt to check out your retainers. In most occasions, the ap2's should be able to withstand those over revs.

As for an update, I had all my retainers replaced with AP2 retainers. Thanks to Jeggy, my mind is at peace lol.

I forgot to take a picture but we found one of my exhaust-side retainers with a hair-line crack on the bottom. Yikes!

The ap2 retainers appears a lot bulkier than the ap1 retainers.

So if you plan on getting your retainers replaced, do both sides, not one side.

Thanks!
Stay away. If you replace them go with AP2 retainers.

Ti retainers and springs are reliable as long as you get matching parts. If you get brand x springs, and brand p retainers they won't last very long because the retainers are going to wear the springs. If you get matching parts, like both springs and retainers from brand p they'll be more reliable because the parts are designed to work with each other.

I think the thread you are referring to was a UK AP2 or something weird like that, so it still had the 2.0 engine.

With regard to the exhaust retainer, I am not sure I have ever heard of an exhaust retainer cracking

I think billman said the cracks in the retainers wouldn't appear right away.

I guess I am surprised the valve didn't take a hit.
