Default Overheated

Hi guys,

Drove the s last Saturday and when pulling out of drive noticed a small tinkling noise like from eng or gearbox, stopped so I carried on after checking the dash lites etc....drove about 6 miles and car just died on motorway with a bit of rattley eng noise.

Pulled over and still no eng lites or temp issues.

Opened bonnet and eng was smoking it was so hot, felt rad and hoses and they were cold, checked temp gauge again and it was now halfway between normal and full...

Left eng cool for 2hrs and managed to put 6 liters of water into it, tried to start it ,turns over but high pitched sound compared to normal cranking sound,
Presumed timing. Havin was gone as sounded like a broken cam belt issue I had years ago...

Pulled rocker cover today to look over top end and everything looks ok,chain intact and no score mares on valve train.

Any ideas what to look at next or has anyone had this happen to them. .??

6 liters of water?!?!?!?!?!?! First step is to determine where all that coolant went. Could be a bad head gasket or water pump. Have you ever noticed any leaks? I sure hope you shut it down in time not to warp the head...

You put 6 liters of water in... which means your radiator was bone dry. Your head gasket is for sure toast.

Wife was using it all week so presume it leaked out due to hose or rad hole and gauge was never noticed,no water when I drove it so no temp reading....

Imagine it's cooked but should start still tho???

Can't do rad sniffer or leak test without eng running

What would cause the no start .???

You have a leak dude. Find it or get ready to buy a new motor.
