Default Overheating at idle

Hey guys....I searched but couldnt find my answer.

I was backing my car in a parking spot and stalled it, wasnt all the way in the parking spot so I started my 01 back up and drove it in the spot. I kept it idle while I talked on the phone, and I looked down at my temp guage and it was at 5 bars! I shut the engine off immediatly. I tried it again when I got off work and it didnt get past 3 bars. I was wondering if the stall had anything to do with somthing such as the fans not kicking on or somthing? What else could it have been?

the heatshield wouldn't cause it.

It could be a few things. My first guess would be that your thermostat may not have opened. It's cheap and easy to replace, so look into that. The fans possibly could not have turned on, or perhaps they're just not powerful enough.

That's the first I have heard of that. I will agree with the people above. Changing the thermostat wouldn't be a bad idea. I am not sure if that caused the problem, but if it will give you peace of mind, then do it. Keep an eye on it though and tell us if it happens again.
