Default overly hot intake causing the cold intake syndrome

hey guys I have this F20C stuffed in my 85 Corolla GTS and so fitting things was an issue, I at first had the intake tract running snugly against the rubber rad hose and have the intake make a U turn taking in air from right about the engine block area....

it looked fine when I peek under the hood but when I drive it for a prolonged time like say 15 minute and suddenly drop the hammer and try to get into vtec it will cut me off at 6800RPM as tho the engine is too cold

but I already have 3 bars in the temperature gauge...

friend told me that having a 6800 cut off is a "safety" feature so he told me to think of ways at which honda will think it's not a good idea to kick off vtec

I looked into the intake tract and holy shit the intake is too hot to even touch after driving (and experiencing VTEC limit)

would that be a possible reason for computer to get into safety get you home mode?? I just moved things around a bit and created a CAI for it going some distance away from the radiator stuff and have the intake take in air right at the front grille and I don't seem to have this problem again ..... yet but could my theory be correct??

thanks in advance man.

Have some pics or your claims will be hard to believe . Check your oil levels and connections to the VTEC solenoid.

That sounds like an awsome setup, but..... we need pics!
And why would you say that you have three temp bars if all you did was swap the engine? Did you also swap the guages?

Don't these swaps basically require that the gauges be swapped also?

As to the problem, I almost wonder if it's a form of the infamous heat bog. Get the coolest intake air you possibly can!!!

The car is for real. He posted a thread somewhere else in the forum a couple of weeks ago. It's a really nice setup and everyone gave him props.

hk20000, you should put a link to that thread in you signature.

here's my cold air intake setup.... I moved the radiator about 3" to the side and there's a gaping hole in the front of the car and the intake now just goes right thru it. the intake sits just behind the bumper grille (JDM bumper has grille between the signal lights) and it's getting ice cold air from there. I drove along a freeway for about half hour and did a VTEC run and it got on perfectly.

I need a lil more aggressive testing tho, time to find a place to terrorize with tire squeal and the lovely sound of VTEC.

well just have a teaser in this thread is more than enough....

ummm yeah I need to go out and test drive now..... having wheel spin all the way to 3rd is a lot of fun
