Default Overrev in neutral?

Well it finally happened to me, but not my fault although kind of because I let my friend drive it. Well story is he was redlining 3rd gear when he actually puts it in neutral and overreved it for a sec or two because the tach was blinking then he let off. The car still drives fine and everything but was wondering if theres anything that I should look out for as paranoia is setting in on me and I'm having nightmares over it, any input would be appreciated, thanks.

i wouldn't think any damage was done. there is a fuel cut to prevent damage in these situations. now if he redlined 3rd and then jammed it into second, then i'd say you could have some issues. but redlineing while in neutral shouldn't be too bad at all for the car. I mean i wouldn't sit in a parking space and just rev the crap out of the car just for sh!ts and giggles. but i wouldn't worry too much...............now if i'm wrong, someone will surely correct me and i'll be the first to say thanks if someone does

Due to the fact that there's a rev-limiter and fuel cut-off, I don't think it would hurt your car at all- especially since you're not in gear and aren't moving. Don't worry about it!

Nothing happened as long as he didn't shift into a lower gear.

It's all gooooood. Your friend was just testing the rev limiter. I don't let anyone drive the S anymore. The gf is the only exception to the rule but since she just learned to drive... it's ok. Definately not the car for novices.

the tach flashing red = ok.
tach going into the red = bad.
flashing red lights in the rear view = bad.

Overrev occurs when downshifting (usually at redline) instead of upshifting. For excample, an ap1 redlined in third gear and misshifted into second sees around 12, 500 RPM.

you didn't overrev. the rev limiter/fuel cutoff prevented that.

an overrev is one where you mechanically force the car to go beyond the fuel cutoff. such as downshifting into 2nd while going 80mph.

a down shift into 2nd at 80 would do some serious damage
