Default P0132 code on built AP2 motor, AP1 ECU

Howdy,

This car is a bit of a mish-mash. Trying to get it through emissions and it has been failing, but came close a few times. Its been to the testing center like 15 times with my tuner who keeps trying different things.

Car is an AP1.
Motor is AP2 with;
- AP1 cam
- 11.8:1 compression
- ABES sleeved
- Some kind of 10k rpm valve springs, dont remember
- Remains a 2.2L not bored
- Blox large throttle body
- Megan headers
- RC 550 injectors (stupid I know, PO installed them)
- AEM FPR
- Berk cat
- Something something Revel exhaust
- Came with an AEM V1, garbage I know. The car was built by previous owner. I want to upgrade to the infinity or hondata but I cannot justify it until I get past emissions testing.

Since the emissions thing started I have had the shop do the following;
- brand new Honda cat ($1200) literally with like 20 miles on it
- put stock ECU back in (37820-PCX-A01)
- new Denso upstream O2 sensor (
Denso 234-4124 Denso 234-4124
) for stock ECU
- put in a set of used, tested stock injectors
- I'm told they checked fuel pressure and it is fine
- I'm told the MAP sensor is working, along with every other sensor (they say they can see the data)

From what I have read, that is an AP1 ECU and the O2 sensor should be the correct one.

The shop tells me we are getting a P0132 code (O2 reading too high) since putting the stock ECU back in and the stock O2. Car runs like ass until the code registers then it goes into limp mode and runs better.

I'm no emissions expert, but the list of mods here is not that crazy.

QUESTIONS I AM HOPING SOMEONE CAN ANSWER;
- Would 11.8:1 pistons, a larger TB and an AP1/AP2 cam setup, or anything else listed above trigger this P0132?
- Is the stock 01 ECU capable of running an AP2 motor with those mods?
- Next steps the shop are taking is to make sure cam/crank timing is correct
- The car put down 228 HP at elevation with that crappy old AEM V1, nothign to write home about, but it's no slouch. I do not suspect compression issues.
- What are we missing? These mods are not that crazy. I have seen stock ECUs run fine with far more done to the motor.

Could you elaborate on what makes you think that? Does that commonly cause issues like this?

I honestly do not know, the car came modded and I have never been a "honda guy". Always owned a lot of subarus and toyotas.

I think there was also some porting work on the head and maybe intake manifold**

Car is likely tuned on a wide band o2 sensor. OEM one seeing too high values and doesn't know what to do.

I'll state again; The stock ECU was swapped in with the new stock O2.

is the fuel old? that'll read high and run like shit. if you don't care, just fill the tank to 50-75% full (EVAP monitor requires between 30-70% tank i think) with 50/50 E85/gasoline mix then clear the code and redo the ECU relearn/readiness process on the stock ECU (1 minute at 55-60mph, then shut off overnight and drive cycle #2 the following morning to warm aka 3 bars and thermostat open). the stock f20 ECU should run fine for emissions on that combo, mine is 12.7:1+ 2.2L (f22 crank, f20 rod, f20 piston, ap1 complete head) on stock AP1 ecu.

should also keep the o2 happy for emissions because ethanol burns into water iirc

Good to know yours passes, but the fuel is not old, I have run 3-4 tanks through it in the 12 attempts at getting it through emissions. Do you think P0132 is EVAP related?

Also where are you doing emissions? Colorado is now as bad as Calfornia, standards are super strict and they have way more sensitive equipment as of 1-1-22.

no P0132 should not be EVAP related at all, but you want the EVAP monitor to be ready in order to pass emissions. if the case is that the fuel is not old, mixing in alcohol will dodge your emissions but you have something else going on. the stock ECU tune is generous enough that it'll run most things without throwing a code.
