Default P0172 Code 2004 s2000

Ok so after three years of ownership I finally ran into my first issue.
Periodically and somewhat transiently I'm getting a too rich fuel code
i.e. P0172

I see there is an SN050206 that appears to be an issue for 2001-2005 s2000.

SN050206 02/01/2005 Engine Controls - DTC P0172

History of the problem has been about 3-4 months ago I had my first CEL pulled the code and it was too rich. First was to replace the air filter and go ahead and order the map update. I the filter was done and I cleared to code, and the car felt better. Prior to the code I was having some hesitation and noticeable drop in MPG. Didn't install the new map when I got it, but about a month later the CEL came on again. Didn't get to pull the code because it reset after a couple of driving cycles but I I got 4-5 blink code which is most likely too rich again. I went ahead and swapped the new MAP in a few days later and reset the ECU. Everything felt fine at first and MPG was better.

Today CEL popped again, I have to pull the code later but the blink was 4-5 again and I'm suspecting too rich condition. In all three cases the CEL has occurred within 1-3 minutes of starting the car, I'm guessing related to rich cold start.

Before I start manual diagnosis anyone have any recommended ideas? I'm very curious to see what SN050206 reports but since it's not an official TSB it's not published. Anyone have it they can post or PM me? I may see if can get access to the honda internal network diagnostic again to see if I can find it.

All else fails I'll start logging data to try to determine why it's going rich.

Grrr...for some reason the 'google' method of searching found nothing but searching UTH alone found something I'm guessing very quickly.

SOURCE: Honda Service News

TITLE: Check Camshaft Timing for DTC P0172

APPLIES TO: All models

SERVICE TIP:

Are you getting a DTC P0172 (fuel system too rich) after replacing the timing belt, the autotensioner, or the water pump? The camshaft timing could be off. Check the camshaft timing. If the timing is OK, then do the normal troubleshooting for DTC P0172.

this is under S2000 service news. Is this the SN050206?

I'm gathering this is the service news. Since I haven't done either it won't apply. The only things non stock about my engine are ricks pullies(which shouldn't impact this) and an AFE filter. Oh well time to start datalogging and diagnosis. Feel free to close, this isn't something that is really internet diagnosable.

The bulletin doesn't apply. There are multiple causes for P0171 and P0172, No 1 specific fix. The PCM is adding fuel to hit it's target AF ratio.

Low fuel pressure
A vacuum leak
Out of range sensors
Bad valve adjustment
faulty injectors

All are possible. I'd recommend finding a reputable shop to take the car to.
