Default Painting calipers

I got some new wheels which are an open design and now my painted calipers really show up which is what I wanted. I am going to be cleaning and repainting them and I notice the metal area just below the rotors extending to the area the wheel mounts to is rusted and doesnt look great. I was wondering if I could carefully remove the rust, clean it with solvent and paint the area flat black with Rust Oleum. I can do it before I repaint the calipers with 2 coats of Rust Oleum. Do you think I need to prime the area too. I think it would look better than leaving it unpainted. Thanks.

i tried painting that portion of my rotors several years back - i used silver VHT high-temperature paint. in the end, the paint turned out silver-ish / blue and the rust came back within a couple months.

black paint might work better. my plan is to buy new rotors (something like http://www.propartsusa.com/product_info.ph...ducts_id=10221).

Do you think I will need to apply high temp paint or will the Rust Oleum suffice.

i'm not too sure, depends on how you drive / if you track your car. high temp definitely can't hurt!

You can also sandblast the calipers, but you need to make sure you don't blast the pistons. VHT caliper paint works great. They have a spray type, as well as a regular paintbrush type. I don't think buying new calipers is necessary...

All brake caliper paints are high temp. All other will flake and peel within 6mth to a yr.
