Default parking brake sliping

I parked on an incline and after a little while the car started to roll. It stopped after about a car length or two. The thing is the slope is steep so the brake had to be engaged at one point and it stopped rolling but was still on an incline. As well if i tried to push it it wouldn't go any where. Its like the brake disengaged and then reengaged.

Besides putting it in gear while parked, what should be done to keep this from happening.

Park the car in gear, set the brake, and turn the wheels towards the curb (if the car rolls, the wheels go against the curb and it stops).

The parking brake should be self adjusting....give it a few pulls and releases. If you want to test that the parking brake is working, hold in the release button and gently pull up while costing in a parking lot. The harder you pull up, the more it grabs.

lol our parking brakes are kinda weak. back when i used to mess around in parking lots and stuff i couldn't even lock the rear wheels. also, you should always park in gear too. i think when the pads cool down they contract and let go of the rotor just enough to start slipping, especially if you didnt put the ebrake on hard enough.

That's not much of a hill. I'd say hot brakes and e-brake - the brakes cool and the tension is lost as the discs shrink.

Always put the car in gear, and fwiw, I've heard that using the ebrake will also warp your rotors if they're hot - another reason not to use it.

I had mine roll down a ~40 degree driveway and thankfully it turned at the street as to not continue into the ditch afterwards. Cop found it in the middle of the street, doors locked, and e-brake engaged. I initially thought someone tried to take it. Cop initially thought that I was drunk and left it in the street haha.

I was so incredibly lucky there was no damage. I'm extremely careful now. I even have a small rubber wedge that I stick under the rear tires when I'm parking on a hill.
