Okay so basically putting a chip/ecu upgrade on will be pointless unless turbo as mine is an ap1. Is 20whp achievable from say an intake, exhaust, header and test pipe?

You can pick up a used VAFC for cheap to lower your VTEC and lean out the upper RPM range. My VAFC tune with bolt-ons was good for 25 HP gains from 6k to redline compared to my stock baseline. Just the bolt-ons will get you 20 HP gains in VTEC. The real benefit is getting to lower VTEC to smooth out the transition area.

Yeah I had concidered a vtec controller, what rpm did you have yours lowered to to achieve that gain?

I dont know if the numbers are correct but the INGEN cold air intake i recieved when i bought my s2k had dyno sheets showing a 10hp increase

Not without tune, no. Maybe 10 bhp, so ~8 whp.

Edit: whoops, mised "test pipe" in there. Yeah 20whp should be achievable, but I doubt it will be on peak hp.

It's not about shifting after max power, its about maintaining the highest average power as you accelerate, which 9/10 will still be better to shift after max power because you'll be at higher power after the shift.

I wonder where people get this because I see it a lot?

Yeah well in my opinion having 20whp gain in lower revs is better than higher revs as this is where the s2000 struggles till the revs pick up, so if an air in take and exhaust system and test pipe will give me 20+whp in the lower rev range ill be happy

To guarantee those numbers though you'll at least have to lower vtec, but you're right. Down low gains will be the best thing for it!

In what use are you trying to make the car fast? Are you drag racing kids on the street or going to the track?

A bit of both really, power is a harder gain than handling in my opinion tho so that's what I'm aiming for first
