Default Steering Rack Issues?

The Issue- I have an unresponsive or "heavy" steering wheel when I turn right. The wheel either bounces in my hand or is very hard to turn. I did my research on steering rack issues, as this seems to be the case, but they are thought to be highly uncommon, so before I take it to a shop, I'd like to eliminate as much guesswork as possible.

The Symptoms- On a cold start, the steering wheel feels heavy or "bouncy" when turning right. Sometimes, there is a light squeal coming from the front left side of the car, when turning into a left corner (while exiting my apartment building garage, for instance). The issue would generally go away once the car was warm or when driving at normal city speeds. More recently, however, the car has started doing this while I'm driving along at 30+ mph, which is a safety hazard to me and everyone around me. Any input would greatly be appreciated!

Look into the torque sensor reset procedure. Does the car have any accident history, or maintenance history such as a clutch change?

Did this just abruptly start, or has it been going on a while? Is it worse with the recent colder weather?

Perhaps its punishment for casting your lot with the wrong group in the spring...

Resembles the recent Wheeler Dealer episode?

I had to reset the power steering in my car after I rotated the steering wheel with the front wheels off the ground. Apparently didn't like a turn with no resistance or ??. Fixed the problem and costs nothing to try. Needs a special tool -- or just use a paper clip. I'm sure there are instructions here.
