Default Please help me diagnose clutch problem

sad day

after nearly 10 years of no problems, i got stranded today.

i have a stock clutch, act hd pressure plate, light flywheel

i was driving normally, then i pushed the clutch in and felt/heard a POP. then when i pushed the clutch pedal, it's very very difficult to move and even when it's all the way down, i cant get it into any gear. i stop the car, the clutch pedal is still impossibly stiff and i can select a gear when the engine is off.

so im guessing the throwout bearing, pressure plate or something isn't letting me disengage the clutch. any ideas and the next question is what parts should i replace it with? oem or aftermarket?

thanks

Not s2k specific, but that "pop" sounds like a master/slave cylinder failed. Pump the clutch pedal and have a look if the clutch fork is moving at full range.

no disrespect intended but i dont get why you mods insist on filing topics away just so that no one sees them

^thats exactly what happened to me. Do you know what causes it? Is it the fault of the pressure plate being too stiff or just something that happens?

Thank you!

How many miles on the release bearing?? They have a variable but finite life span. Mine is noisy as hell and may go any day at 142k. I doubt seriously that the extra clamping force of an aftermarket PP would cause this. It's likely just worn out. Make sure to replace it and the pilot bearing with OEM parts and not cheap aftermarket Chinese/low-quality garbage (which is exactly what comes with even the highest quality aftermarket clutch kits). There's a 100-150K+ mile difference in OEM over cheap bearings, remember that..
