Default Please help me with an elusive CEL!

Hey S2Ki,

This is my first thread, but i'm a big fan of the community and the wealth of S2K related information at my fingertips. Lately I have been a lurker, but plan on becoming more active in the community. Unfortunately, a pesky CEL has been preventing me from fully enjoying my S2K, even (gasp) making me consider selling it!

The CEL in question is 2227: Baro Sensor Performance (Possible Failure). Issues associated with this are:

-Slightly high idle (900-1100 RPM)
-An occasional stumble from a dead stop
-The frusteration of knowing something is wrong with my car when I see the CEL

I used this handy thing called the search function on the site and found 1 thread related to my issue: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/955...ent-p2227-cel/

First, I removed the IACV valve and cleaned it with carb cleaner. I ensured that the motor/bearings were spinning freely (which they were). I also looked in the throttle body and gave it a quick cleaning as well. I also checked the vaccuum lines for any obvious cracking/leaks. After the cleaning, the CEL vanished, the idle dropped down to approximately 500-600 RPM, and would occasionally stabilize at an ideal 700-800 RPM. When it hit the 500RPM range, I could feel pretty substantial vibrations in the car.

Second, I changed the plugs since I am sitting right at 90K. This also cured the CEL for a short amount of time, but strangely the car reverted to its origional high idle pattern. Since this change, the CEL comes and go as it pleases, and this inconsistency is the most frusterating aspect of all.

Has anybody else encountered a similar issue? Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated! I would rather not take the car to the stealership if possible.

Did you split the halves to determine this?

It already has the factory "zip tie" fix on it. Do you reccomended using my multimeter to check if it is sending the correct signal?

When i removed the throttle body I did split the IACV in two, and the shaft protruding from the motor side spun freely. Is there any other objective test to see if it is functioning properly?
