has anyone tried to remove the coating around the shifter ring for the chrome look on a 2003???

someone had mentioned that the 2002's dont have that finish...

i just didnt want to ruin it for no reason.

Yes, this has been done by lots of people.

Is the 2003 really chrome? In the pic on the Honda web site it looks like the same grey as the dash, like 2002. I have not seen a 2003 in person yet so now I'm really curious....

Im not sure about the 03' question, but in my 01' I used cotton balls and rubbing alchohal to remove the coating and I think it looks good...I have the voodoo shift knob so they look good together. I also wanna know if the 03' is different, I relly think we would know if it was with all the model year changes threads, but you never know.....

It would be best to error on the safe side by not trying to remove the finish. The matte coated chrome trim was only used on the 2000-2001 S2000's. For 2002, they changed it to a black trim ring painted silver, assume that it will be the same for the 03 model.

moyopoyo do you have a pic of yours? I am interested in it I was going to buy a 2000 from Honda and do it but if you would like to swap I might be interested. Just want to see what everyone is talking about. I have billet rings around my roof and hazard switches so maybe it would compliment it nicely.

the 02 has a shiny black/metallic under it.....i took mine off before i had it replaced under warranty....basically, it was wearing out, so they ordered the piece for me, and while waiting a month for it...i cleaned the original off....it was a shiny black, with what looked like metal flakes....not bad looking, and if i didnt order a new one, i would have kept it like that.

im also wondering if this can be done to the cluster rame as well...it looks like it has the same finish
