Default Popping Sound shifting into second.

I just noticed this today. When I shift into second (from first) I hear a popping sound under the console. It does not sound internal to the transmission. I found that if I am sitting still with clutch in, I can still hear the popping when I shift.

When driving, if I shift slowly there is no pop until I release the clutch and give it gas.

Any ideas?

I would refer to this as a clunk. My car does it.

Yes, it is a clunk. Mine has moved since my original post. It is now clunking when I shift to 4th. Originally it was second and no clunk in 4th.

What could it be? It still shifts fine and feels fine, but I am concerned.

I don't know, the more old parts i replaced with new parts related to the clutch hydraulic system, the less my car did it.

It turns out that there are plastic or nylon parts in the shifter that can crack. I don't know which ones to replace so I guess I'll order everything. I found a post for re-greasing the shifter which is nice....

Also, I saw where Spoon makes a shifter replacement with a metal end.

I would think that the nylon collar and the nylon tip are a good place to start.

I think parts 7 and 8 are what I need.

Has anyone done this to get rid of the clunk sound? Mine now clunks going into 2nd,4th and 6th.
