Is it possible to double crank the engine?

What happens if you press the "START" button while the engine is already running? Does it double crank the engine? S2000 engine is so quiet, I'm afraid some valet guy may think it's dead and try to start the engine again while it's already running.
Did you accidently do this and now your are wondering if you did any damage

To answer your question, I've done this once before. Was apparently in a heated debate on the cell phone and forgot the car was already on.

Wasn't a problem.

Don't worry.

Anything in excess is a problem. Maybe if did this a couple times in a row, like some compulsive disorder or something, then you got something to worry about

No, I haven't but I was just curious if it was possible to do it with our car since we have the "Start Button" I thought maybe it was made kind of like the one on Lexus that is "idiot-proof." I wish ours was built like it so we don't actually have to put the key in the ignition.

My main concern is with valet people because they once f***ed up my Eclipse GS-T. I had a turbo timer on it, and for some reason it must have confused them; some idiot tried to engage the starter motor while it was still running. Ever since then, I stopped valet parking.

Thanks for the info guys.

Valet type people aren't the only issue when it comes to cranking an engine while it's already running. Having the starter motor circuit on a remote button is not really different from having it as a last position on the ignition key. People have been double and triple cranking engines with the starter circuit on the key ever since an ignition key was invented. In fact, it's far easier to double crank when it's on the key.
You really want to pay the price of a Lexus just so the starter circuit is idiot proof? Why should the rest of the automotive world have to pay for a feature that protects dyslexics and idiots from themselves? Those who would trust their vehicles to a valet, have way more things to worry about than just the occasional double crank.

That push start button is utterly retarded since we have to put the key in anyways. They should have just dont a remote transmitter like on the RL. Honda is pretty cheap in odd areas sometimes.

It would be very convenient with a remote transmitter. Seems that's the way it's headed now. I think the new Infiniti G35 uses the same mechanism.

2 reasons.

1) Using the left hand to restart while using the right to get back in first after a spin/stall.

2) Racing heritage.

Neither of those seem utterly retarded to me. Now should we talk about insults born of ignorance??

The start button is more or less a gimmick. You could argue that it is related to racing heritage (and it is) but race cars typically don't require the insertion and turning of a key to engage the ignition. The vast majority of race cars have an ignition switch and a starter button. The inclusion of the key ignition is a security precaution.

That being said, I love the gimmick. It's the first thing that I show people when they ride with me. That, in addition to the supportive seats, low position, no-nonsense interior, convertible top, cocoon feeling, digital dash, etc..., tends to overwhelm people. I love it.

I, like many owners I am sure, am a very curious person. The first or second time I took my car out I was like...I wonder what happens if I press this again...OH SHIT. I learned fast. No damage done, but I wouldn't recommend doing that too often unless you like refurbishing start motors.

It's a gimmick if you don't track your car, but then so is a lot of the car.

If you track the car, and wear gloves, the Start button is a god send. I can't imagine trying to fiddle with the keys after spinning and stalling.

the s2000 was one of the 1st cars in the world to have a push button starter

before lexus and bmw and acura and mercedes... not too shabby for a $30K car...

Not by a long shot!

Many cars had starter buttons, even before they had key operated ignition switches. Integrating the start function with the ignition switch was a "modern" innovation that wasn't common in many cars until the 1950s. For example, the Volkswagen Beetle was originally designed in the 1930s with a starter button and it wasn't until 1954 that the start function was integrated with the ignition switch.
