To be honest, there is no excuse for "no oil" ..end of story.

^ Sorry, but RARE occassions, there are. Just because you havent experienced them doesnt mean its not possible to be an attentive owner and experience a situation of 'no oil'.

I think it's more of a responsibility issue than anything else.

Wow lotus, way to be an a$$ given this guys situation.


Don't you guys think having to pay for the engine to be rebuilt//purchase a new one is lesson enough to check his oil in the future?

^^Possibly, but really only if it's driven home to the OP that it was HIS error, not anything the car did...

Something as simple as pulling over as soon as the oil light came on would have given him an increased chance to save his engine - not a great chance, but a much better one...

Must have lost oil somewhere. Pull the dipstick even though its too late to see and do anything you still have to know. Look under the car for evidence of a cracked pan and insure the presence of drain bolt.

the minute the oil light comes on (oil PRESSURE not oil LEVEL light). you should pull over asap and turn car off.
in just about every car. the oil light comes on due to lack of pressure and not how much oil you have in it. from what i heard most 4 cylinders can go down to about 1.5 qts or less before the oil light will come on.

battery light will be on always if the engine is not started. battery light is more of an alternator light. tells you if the alternator is charging the battery or not. and if the engine is not on. the light is. never seen a battery light come on when my battery is about to die
