Possible Rollbar Solution, Please Help
Hello everyone,
I have found a local shop that does custom rollbars, http://www.krauseandengland.com located in Raleigh, NC. The problem is now coming up with a design. First and for most, no permanent damage will be done to the car. It will also be removable for street use. Does anyone have pictures of the plastic rollbar covers removed or the paneling behind the seats removed? If you do, please send them to s2k@smanders.com. I would greatly appreciate it. I will be dismantling my own car to see what the options are on construction. I am working with the guy there and once I have the stock rollbars exposed and the rear paneling removed, we are going to come up with something. He wondered if anyone else was interested. He said he can duplicate anything, but it

That is definitely a helpful photo. If I can get more like that from different angles, we could design the rollbar without having to rip apart my car. Thanks so much for the great photo.

Many of us are waiting for a good rollbar solution. The challenge is to meet various needs. Some of us want improved rollover protection in an attractive package. Others want something SCCA legal. Some people have wound up approaching local fabricators to do the job, but what we really need is someone to start pumping out a nice kit. Here's a link to one of the recent attempts at generating support for an aftermarket bar: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...ghlight=rollbar

I would recommend the Mugen rollbar "cover" which is a plastic piece they sell to complement their bar. It replaces the factory hoops and plastic with a nice-looking piece:

My plan, and something that would also work for you, would be to remove all the factory parts and install this with a new (custom) bar utilizing the factory mounting points. As soon as I have the time, I'll be working with a local fellow that has a mandrel bender to bend one up for the car. I'll also make one as a pattern and save it for anyone interested (will be able to bend up more).
Removable? Not likely. That would take a LOT of work, and still probably require serious modification of the interior to make it removable w/o taking 2 hours. I'd remove the factory hoops, make it look pretty, and make sure the top can still close (should be possible).

Here is a picture of another owner's solution. Notice the stock hoops have been removed. I really like this setup, assuming it has the necesary strength at the mounting points.
