Possibly a new diff option

Default Possibly a new diff option

Mazda is using the Tochigi-Fuji Limitted slip in the RX8 and Miata. From what I heard our units are the same as the LSD on the pre 03 Miatas (Torsen).

Does anyone know if it is the exact same Torsen unit? If so, a Mazda replacement may work... And rated to 250 HP (still low torque) on the RX8, it may be stronger...

I doubt it. I will do some research today and try and find the exact specs of both Miata/RX8 units (Torsen and the new one). Does anyone have specs for our diff?

I have a feeling the redesign S2K (2004) will have this same new diff...

Because its just a Kaaz LSD and you are using the stock housing. You aren't really upgrading. You can save a bundle of cash just by buying the Kaaz and not paying for Spoon's bling-bling nametag. This "upgrade" probably doesn't improve the life of the rear end, just gets you differnent parts and a hyperactive LSD engagement.

Yeah, Id like to replace the whole unit when HP gets pushed up there. That means custom axles/drive shaft . . . diff mounts.

didn't have time to do any research today. Fuggit, if it does work, I'll market the kit.

Initially when the S2000 came out there was discussion that our Torsen unit was the exact same box as the Miata unit. Part numbers and all.

I'm sure some Miata owners have had diff problems. And Mazda just updated the Miata diff to the same one going into the RX8. I would think that Mazda would have the common sense to learn from Honda's and their own past mistakes. Hopefully its just a drop in replacement, housing and all.

One more. If this is possible and fairly cheap, and the diff is rated at more than 200 torque, I see many opportunities here. No more worries about dumping it, and we can upgrade our clutch!

Then we will see S2000's with CAI and exhaust hitting low 13's. What are the V8 boys gonna say then?

muhahaha
