however i just want to make sure that y'all know that i was actually in fourth for a good 1/2 sec before i clutched again

so basically as long as my car didn't hit redline in the mis shift i'm fine?
I would have held the gas to the floor

You're fine.

In my AP1 80mph is WHEN you WANT to hit fourth to pass someone. It puts you right into VTEC.

I'm still considering 3rd

I have caught 4th instead of 6th a couple times, and even at 50-60 mph it's an uncomfortable feeling to see the revs shoot up when you weren't expecting them to.

While on the subject of shifting.

Just a remember, do not skip fifth gear and go directly in to sixth...if you might be so inclined...

^^ dead bird why is it bad to shift to sixth from fourth? i've done this a few times at high rpm in fourth and was lazy and just jumped into sixth.

i would be interested in knowing as well if anybody knows what are a few of the obvious signs of engine damage from mis shifting? besides sound since i'm sure with homeboy having an exhaust it might be hard to tell what noises are coming from the engine.

Why no skipping??? I am doing this all the time. I also shift 1 -3 - 5 - 6... How could this be bad? Please do tell.

Your car at speed is a reservoir of kinetic energy.

Allthough downshifting into a gear that will not get you into a rev range higher then you are mechanically allowed to.. letting the clutch out a bit quickly without a rev match may accelerate the engine faster then it is able to on its own.
IOW the engine revs up from 3000 to 8000 rpm (for example) in a split second driven by the kinetic energy of the car.

IOW, for a very short time - 10-ths of seconds - you are doing (for example) 10000 rpm.
That MAY put some stress on retainers.

IMO!

So, downshifting like that should always be done with a proper rev match.
Let the engine accelerate (rev up) by you pressing the throttle.
