well, the only thing keeping me from spending the money to get them balanced is the fact that my mechanic said they were just fine during a maintenance 5,000 miles ago. Could uneven tread wear on the tires due to the car being lowered be the cause? I noticed when i went out to check the front tires for missing weights that my left front tire is really worn on the inside when none of the other tires are showing the same wear...

I never had it lead to tire wear. Usually it would drive me nuts long before that happened. It can wear out front ball joints and steering ends.

Find a shop with a Hunter tire machine to balance your rims.

It should not cost too much to have them rebalanced. Have them check and print out the current balance, and what they set them to.

The closest tire shop were great for convenience, but sucked otherwise. I could take my car there, get the tires balanced, and not even get up to 30mph and know they were off. Since it was a tire chain store, I just went to the one a few miles away. Asked them to rebalance the tires and give me the initial balance of the tires. The guy balancing them came into the waiting area and wanted to know who balanced them before, I told him and he laughed. Seems the person that balanced them before, put the weights on the opposite side of where they should have been. And had apparently doubled the amount of weights needed. Fixed, and did not get them rebalanced until the next time I had to rotate them.

Cliffs: Some people just don't know how to balance or even check tires for balance. Get a second opinion.
