My question is, will replacing the tie rods and rack fix a problem tht comes and goes like that? Doesn't sound like something's bent or anything if it's not a continuous issue. Or am I wrong about that? Just wanna get the facts straight before i start spending money when I really can't afford to.

My own common sense tells me that it's an issue with the controlling unit or the torque sensor, which to me would explain why it's not a constant issue and feels normal sometimes. Then again, I'm not a mechanic and don't know anything about power steering systems. I'd rather not rely on my own "logic" when it comes to spending that kinda money.

I hope it's just the control unit.

So today my car decided to have no power steering at all today. The EPS light is on. Would replacing the steering rack which from my understanding is purely a mechanical part (tie rods and rack) solve my issue???

The EPS has its own troubleshooting codes. Find out what part is broken and replace it.

How do you pull the codes for the eps? I went to advance auto and they only have an obd2 scanner tht reads check engine codes. Any help appreciated! Thanks in advance

Did you ever figure out what was going on? I'm having the same problem/symptoms
Please tell me you didn't have to replace the whole rack!

Thanks

you can short you SCS to ground and the EPS light will flash out your code in long and short flashes. I dont know off hand which pins it is in the OBDII port (SCS) they are I would have to look at mine on my V8 swapped S2000 because I have been dealing with EPS stuff lately. and then when you get the codes just do the troubleshooting for them in the Honda service manual to see what is bad. My guess its the torque sensor but there is a troubleshooting section for it as well in the book.
