Default premature rev limiter

I have searched on the forums for a 'premature rev limiter' however did not find the solutions or even the problems to what I am experiencing.

Whenever I try to hit the redline at 9k, the car seems to stumble around 7k to 8.5k. There is an early rev limiter at 8.5k. I hit the early rev limiter mark and the rpm's steadily drops down to 6.5k. I always made sure the engine warmed up to 3 bars with 10 minutes of casual driving pre-vtec. The oil was also at the 'high' level.

I suspected the car had a worn out MAP sensor, however I replaced the old unit with a newer one with zip tie kit from gofastlab. The problem still persisted. I am thinking it's a worn out clutch, but I don't know how a clutch would cause the engine to hit an early rev limiter. There was also no CEL.

I took the car to the dealer and they found no problems. I will have to go back with me behind the wheel to replicate the problem.

... but for now, I am seriously stumped... Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance!

Plugs? Coilpacks? Fuel pump? FPR? Injectors?

Kinda sucks you're not getting any better indication of what's going on. I'd hate for you to have to keep replacing parts only to find out that doens't fix it.

You might do well to put the car on an engine diagnostics machine and run it to get all the parameters logged. That might tell you where to start looking further.

I was having a similiar problem where my engine was cutting out in the 8000 RPM range. My fuel light was on and I had no bars on the fuel indicator (which is unreliable at the best of times from my experiences, but not this time). I immediately put fuel in my car and all was well. Obviously I did not have enough fuel to sustain the high RPM rips. How is your fuel level ? For the record, can anyone tell me if this type of engine cut-out due to lack of fuel damage the engine ?

i've always kept fuel at least 2 bars available.

still happens with a full tank.

this is seriously frustrating.

well if another guy was having this problem when very low on fuel...it MAY be safe and wise to assume that you may have a fuel problem...true it may still do it with a full tank...but

dirty injectors, dying fuel pump, bad fuel pressure regulator, clogged fuel filter...all of these could cause a "low fuel like" situation...start with the cheapest, most common stuff, then go to the more expensive stuff...

clean your injectors, replace the filter...

but then...I'm not positive either...

Possibly crappy gas? If your engine was knocking, the ECU will retard the timing to prevent damage.
