Default pretty urgent: sudden issue with clutch

alrighty, last night the car drove fine, no noticeable problems at all.

this morning I got in and it was very hard to get in to gear, had to try several times to get it in reverse, then first. shifting was very notchy sometimes pretty good resistance as far as getting it in gears. then I noticed the pedal felt very different. almost no resistance whatsoever until the very bottom where the engagement point was(prior to these problems the engagement point was pretty high) after talking to a friend of mine at work he seems to think it's the throwout bearing as his truck did the same thing a while back. I was thinking it may be just low fluid in the hydraulic system or something, but I'm relatively new to the S2000, haven't gotten a helms manual yet, and didn't see where to check/fill that sort of thing. any and all help is sincerely appreciated as this is my only car and I have to make a trip to central Mississippi on Saturday(150ish miles, last 40 in curvy back roads) and I can't do it with the car in this condition; it's barely drivable.

I would check the master cylinder and clutch fluid.

I will when I get the chance; I'm at work now and wont be off till 9, I don't have access to a shop manual either because I never bothered to get one for the S yet and when I did a quick glace before I had to run in to work I couldn't find where the cylinder was- can you give me a quick guide as to where it is?

This should give you a good idea of where your clutch master cylinder is:

I forgot to mention, you should probably check your slave cylinder aswell. You can find that here:

Good luck

thanks, I just ran out and checked it(I'm on my lunchbreak) and it seemed to be full, topped it off just to be sure, but the car still feels the same after a quick spin around the block. I can't get to the slave cylinder until maybe tomorrow since I can't get under the car

could this be the throwout bearing causing this type of behavior, or is it something else?

Hmm, I've never heard of a throwout bearing causing this sort of issue but since your friend has had a similar problem it is possible.

Before or during this problem, have you heard any rattling, chirping type noising when the clutch was depressed? This would be a sign of a TOB going bad.

How is the clutch? Is it worn?

Maybe there is an issue with your pressure plate. Rare but things do break. I'm assuming your original clutch.

i'd go through a thorough inspection of the hydraulic system before you jump to bigger conclusions. the master cylinder is the most common point of failure, but i guess you've already looked there.

I agree that there could be a problem with your pressure plate. Some springs could have gone bad and wore out the clutch which would explain the low engagement point (as opposed to the normally worn high engagement point).

Drewbob makes a very good point, I would definately look at the cylinders and fluid before anything as they are the most likely and cheapest/easiest.
