Primary Gear Reduction Swap

Primary Gear Reduction Swap
So I have been pondering the idea of changing my rear end gearing to something around the 3.63 mark. A 3.63 setup in an AP2 gets you pretty close speed wise to a factory setup Ap1. After researching the gear ratio differences between an Ap1 and an Ap2, I found that most of the difference was in the primary gear reduction.
That leads to the topic. It looks as if you could change out the secondary shaft and the secondary shaft drive gear to essentially turn an AP2 into an AP1 or vise versa gear wise. Of course you still have the taller 4th and 5th in an AP2, but that could allow for a nice cruising gear. I feel like this would be a common ordeal instead of changing out the rear end, but I can't find any record of it being done. Am I missing something here?
