Problem with top lock handle ( softop )
HI
I'am new hire...sorry for my english. I bought my s2000 about one month ago (AP1). I've got a big problem for me, when I'am driving over rough roads I'm hearing very very irritating noise
. In 100% from top lock handle - (I do not know how to call of this thing correct in english). I tryed to fix it and did point from 1 to 7 on SERVICE BULLETIN "Convertible Top Creaks, Pops, or Rattles While Drining Over Rough Roads" but after there is no difference. Mayby someone had this problem and know another way to fix it???
Thanks for any suggestions.

my latch started to rattle a little while ago. not sure which part of the latch that rattled but all i know is that i "fixed" by....
when i put the top up, i stop it JUST before it automatically stops so the latch does a little pulling action to lock it so there is tension on the latch (but not much).

The place where the hook catches for the top wears down after awhile. If you don't want to replace it, you could try getting some thing rubber tubing to put over the hooks. This should tighten it up and cut down on rattles.
hueyxyeuh - Thanks for your idea I will try today your sugestion but I thing hear wind noise more then before...??!!
stios2k - I can not imagine or I can not understand where exactly I should put the rubber tubing ?! Can you give me some photo ?? Thanks you very much.

Here is an old post where someone else had this problem and wrote up how to replace the strikers. My "temporary" solution is to slide some thin rubber hose (or even a little electrical tape) on the hooks that attach to the striker when you put the top up. The idea is to tighten up the connection.

The best thing to do is replace the strikers, I had to do it myself on my old MY00 when I had it. It only took about 15 minutes. In the states they cost about $50 USD, no idea how much they are in your area.

A common source of rattles after a soft top replacement is in the ribs just above your head. There are rivets that must be drilled out. The rivet remains fall into the rib and rattle. At the end of each rib, there is a plastic stopper that pulls off...you can then either blow air through the rib to try to push the rivets out or you can tap on the rib from the middle to the outside to try to vibrate the rivet out.
Also, along the leading edge of the top frame, the fabric is attached with a friction plate and screws. Those screws are very easily stripped. Once stripped, they will rattle.
If the latches are tight check the button on the sides of them. They can vibrate. You should be able to lightly touch them and it will stop. Putting small o-rings under the screws that hold the buttons on will silence them.

I need some time to check alll of them. One more time very thanks.
