Default Problem with Vortech belt tensioner ! Need some advise !

Hi,

since I had my new clutch installed I have to tighten the supercharger belt on a daily base (every time I floor it). First I thought that the belt tensioner comes lose but it is actually the belt that changes in diameter. I noticed also when the belt is loose that on the charger pulley the belt is not perfect aligned (1 mm of the pulley).
Any suggestions ?

You can not tighten the pulley nut because the nut is secured and marked by Vortech ???

First you must confirm the belt routing. Stand in front of the car and look toward the belt at the top of the S/C pulley. Follow the belt to the right as it goes down and routes back to the left. It then must go around the tensioner pulley such that it is on the left side of the tensioner pulley. After it leaves the tensioner pulley, it must travel back to the right and wrap around the crank pulley. At the bottom of the crank pulley, it must travel to the left and then around the left side of the idler pulley and then straight back up to the top of the S/C pulley.
Now, how are you tightening the tensioner pulley? Are you doing the following?
-from under the car, you must reach up with a wrench to loosen the jam lock nut at the center of the tensioner pulley.
-now, from above, you begin to "unscrew" the tension pulley adjuster screw. This pushes the tensioner puller to the left up against the belt. When it is as tight as you need it to be......................
-go back under the car and reach up to secure the jam lock nut at the center of the tensioner pulley. If this lock nut is not secured the tensioner pulley will gradually slip and eventually slide off one of the pulleys as you have already described.

Please check what I posted just above. From your description, I'm guessing you are not doing the tightening procedure correctly. This tensioner pulley nut must be loosened before the tensioner will move.

Yeah, that nut is pretty hard to reach, but you will figure it out! Make sure you tighten it !!!

There is a really great diagram in this thread to show you the way:

Also, a 19mm closed end wrench with a slight bend on the end will get that jam nut.

sky-chicken, hummmmmmm..... you should notice quite a difference in performance of your SC now. Wow! I'm kind of surprised that nothing more serious happened with that jam nut not being tightened! Still like the Toda headers?

xviper, , how's your SC running?
