Problem when accelerating
I was wondering whether anyone else has had this happen to them. It's only happened twice so far and Honda have no idea what is causing it.
When accelerating, the car hits about 6000 - 7000 revs and it's exactly like hitting the redline at 9000 revs. It just cuts out.

It is my understanding that this will happen if the engine hits the VTEC RPM range before it is warmed up to the normal three bars on the temperature gauge.
I have not been tempted to test this with my car when it is still cold.
I don't know if this may be the answer to your question or not?

Your car was probably not warmed up. This happened to me one time when I wasnt paying attention. My car did not have 3 bars of temperature yet and I didnt shift so at around 6k rpms, it just stopped me, like hitting a rev limiter. Always wait till you have 3 bars of temperature, and it is recomended to still wait 5 minutes or so after that to hit the 9k mark.

Thanks a heap, fellas
Both times it happened to me, the car had not been running longer than a few minutes. That must have been the reason. The mechanics at Honda had no idea what it was.

Yeah the first few times I trigged to gun it after just starting it, the car would tell me to take it easy...basically by jerking me forward and scaring the hell outta me. I learned to warm up the car before doing anything crazy

Thanks Turkeymeister
as it so happens, I've already done it. The car cuts out around the VTEC level so it's obviously designed to do that.
I'm going to be more careful in the future. I'm sure it is not good for the car to do that!
