IIRC 08E51-S0X-1M0G1 is the wrong part. It's for cars with the OEM alarm.

When shopping for a new fob, pay close attention to the FCC ID on the back.

I don't have the part number as I bought my replacement via eBay using the FCC ID.

Thanks for the tip! I knew I should have asked the S2Ki hive mind before purchasing...

According to the information on here, I have the OEM alarm on my car. Prior to my visit to discount tire today, my four key fobs (two P/N 08E61-s01-1m0-01 FCC ID A269ZUA101 and two P/N 35011-KA FCC ID E4EG8DJ) were all working. I've been using key fob P/N 08E61-s01-1m0-01 for months and notice the alarm light nicely blinks red after locking. Directly after Discount Tire I go home and try to lock my car with the key fob (P/N 08E61-s01-1m0-01) and it doesn't work.
I grab the other key fobs at home and find that only the two key fobs P/N 35011-KA work but they do not arm the alarm.
How do I get the P/N 08E61-s01-1m0-01 working again? I've tired doing the re-programming steps, but P/N 08E61-s01-1m0-01 doesn't seem to make the car react in anyway.
I was able to verify programming with key fobs P/N 35011-KA that I followed the right steps in turning the key 3 times and each time hitting a lock or unlock button.
I've tried using the valet button underneath the steering wheel to enable and disable valet mode, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

What can i do to fix this problem?
Do i have to take it to the honda dealership for them to look at it? Would disconnecting the car battery help reset things?

I fixed the problem by disconnecting the battery.
I don't know why that worked, but I'm happy to have my alarm working!

Bumping this a little bit guys...

People here correct me if I'm wrong on this...

I just bought an 04. It came with only one key. The special expensive looking one.

I've looked on eBay and can get another "normal" key for less than $10 ($32 at dealer). I know it has to be programmed at the dealer, but can it be cut anywhere? Or does it still have that "special" cut like the main key?

I don't have a remote either. I can get them on eBay for about $45 ($140 at dealer). But, it appears from these directions that I need at least one working remote to program any new ones. Is that correct?

Thanks guys.

Look on the center console for a red LED. If the car has dealer installed security you'll have a LED by the cupholder and a control unit under the drivers seat. The dealer installed security remotes don't interchange with the OEM keyless remotes. The trunk release doesn't work correctly. Take a pic of the remotes you have and find out if you have security. I can tell you if you have the correct remote. 00-01 cars usually had security installed at the dealer to bump the purchase price when S2k's were bringing full retail
this is the exact issue im having. and my S came with this Fob it also came with a three button one that everyone seems to have (but doesnt trigger the immobilizer off). my S also has the LED in the center console. ive tried programming the 3 button fob but it doesnt seem to work. is there anything else i could do besides going to the dealer and getting charged heaps to program this?
Sorry for reviving a dead post, just seemed so relevant to my problem...

Hey, did you get anywhere with this? When I was looking to buy an S2000 a few weeks back, I looked at quite a few and they ALL had this light, all had little motion sensor nubs by the windscreen and all had the following fob.

I got a good deal on a car but the one I got hasn't came with a fob.

No trouble, I thought, saw the guides online, bought a second hand generic 3 button honda remote and tried to program, no luck. Have a friend who is a salesman at a local Honda Dealer, he got me a brand new fob from parts who determined this was the correct one according to my chassis no.

I've seen repair cases for these on ebay, and obviously also seen you have the same style fob for yours. Now I know my car has the correct system, and this is the correct fob, I need a hand from someone on some instructions on how to program the key.

Can anyone help me at all?

As mentioned, thread revival I know, but it was too relevant to start a new thread, I will do this if this becomes exhausted however.

Thanks all,

Sam

Assuming you already have a new blank key (I bought an OEM genuine blank online in 2013/2014 iirc... just procrastinating to have it done).. the quotes I got:

3 different local Honda dealers = $165 to cut key and program the immobilizer to the new key.

4-5 different local car-key locksmiths = $95 to cut key and program the immobilizer to the new key.
