hi, i hope i'm in the right forum. I recently installed the Vortech SC with no problems and no Cel. and the Vafc-II with no problems. I took it to the dyno shop today and got it on the dynapak only to find out that its not producing any power but loosing power.
I am producing boost. about 7.5lbs of boost. a/f is ok but a little rich. but my timing is REALLY retarded. at 3k rpm it is at 0 degrees and at 8500 rpm it is at 6 degrees. My dyno tech thought it could be my clutch slipping, but nope no problems there. i am only getting 189rwhp. He says the stock timing range should be around 25 degrees at 8500.
He says it could be a wiring issue but no Cel and no problems other than timing issue. We think it could be the Blackbox but i couldn't find any threads with more info to help me on this. The Shop messed with my Vafc and was able to advance the timing a little bit but its still too retarded. I am going to take a closer look at the wiring again today. but does anyone have any ideas or recommendations on a solution?
I just popped under and took a look at the ecu and wiring and i noticed the wiring that was done for my vafc is odd, and i noticed the Map wire from the Ecu (Green/Red) was wired up with the vafc and the vortech blackbox all together in a loop.
Isn't it suppose to be Map-->Vafc-->Vortech blackbox(s)-->Ecu from what i am reading on the forum.
Or is it suppose to be Map-->Vortech Blackbox -->Vafc-->Ecu?
i think the wiring was done wrong for my vafc i am going to try redoing those and then taking a look at all the other wires under there. This could be why Church was getting such a retarded timing off my car. I'm still not real sure if this will fix the problem as i've never done a vafc till today.
What Ludedude said. If UL couldn't figure it out in person I doubt anyone is going to be able to do it online. Good Luck. I hope it's a simple wiring issue.
I assume someone else wired up the V-AFC? This is the reason I recommend using a P'n'P harness. It's much easier to work on the kitchen table in an upright position than under the dash with blood rushing to the head for the first time in a decade. And debugging is easier too as you can remove the whole assembly and view it in good light.
Other than wiring issues, it sounds like your ECU is in limp mode. It'll do this if it sees any extraneous signals such as pinging or high MAP values. The end result will be drastically retarded timing and low power. But the quick fix is to reset the ECU. It'll probably reoccur until you find the source of the problem but at least it gives you a clue.
