Pulling the engine
Hey everyone, I just picked up a s2000 with a engine tap/knock. I did some research and thought it was a TCT. Long story short, took the valve cover off found coolant. Leads me to think that the head gasket blew then lead to a spun bearing or something that requires to rebuild the engine. Anyway Im getting ready to pull the engine out and everywhere I look it says to pull the trans first then the engine.
1) do I need to pull the trans to pull out the engine?
2) can I just pull them both out together at the same time with an engine hoist?
Has anyone tried either of these two things?
O and I tried to search but its broken for me so please dont flame.

IMHO the easiest way is to drop the front subframe with the motor and tranny together.
It took me and a buddy about 3 hours to get the entire thing out of the car and have the car rolled out of the shop.
the biggest pain the ass doing it that way is lifting the car up high enough to get the mess out from under it. I used my engine lift to pick up the front of the car.
also, if you do it that way, take the cam sensors off the valve cover before you start, they are reallllllly easy to break.

Thanks guys, very helpful, I am going to try to just get the trans lose and pull the enginge out of the top, how about exhaust manifold? I assuming thats gotta come off while in the car, looks pretty tight in there. Ill take some pictures and show everyone what I discover if I get to work on it this weekend. Called a machine shop, to refinish my bearing journal and crank and hone my cylinders im looking at 3-400 bucks not too bad, I may throw some rods and pistons in there too while Im at it.

If working on jackstands that is the best option.
