Default Pulls under acceleration... alignment, or diff?

@!%$^% search engine never works here.

I drove the car today, hadn't driven it in a week. I noticed it felt twitchy... until I was able to determine what exactly it was doing.

I tried this at different speeds and I can't identify it happening under 45 or 50mph, but at those speeds or above, when I give the car gas, it pulls left. When I lift throttle it pulls back to the right, or goes back to tracking normally (pulls left hard enough it requires correction).

The car hasn't been autocrossed or tracked since this started... all I did was an oil change. I haven't hit anything that would make me think I need an alignment, which makes me doubt that. I need to check tire pressures, but all 4 looked good and the tires have never lost even a pound before.

So I have the obvious to check; tire pressures and loose hardware, but...

Has anyone known of a failure mode of the diff like this? The problem is pretty pronounced, like a BAD alignment, but it's only under acceleration. Handling is otherwise unnaffected.

Ideas?

I would guess tire pressure. I had a tire with a nail in it and it pulled when I let off the throttle. The tires also looked Ok, but the next day I had a flat in one of the back tires.

I've never heard of a diff exhibiting this symptom - in 100% of the cases I've heard about (and my own personal experience with a nail) it's always been because of tire pressures.

Not S02's, AVS', but I guess I'll check pressures right away.

When I got my HRE's I had the exact problem and it turned out that one of the rear tires that I got had a broken belt in it. I drove around that way for like a month before I ordered another tire. I sent the broken one back and they wouldn't warranty it. Sucks, eh?

Tire pressure would seem like the problem, but if the pressures are correct then you likely have a broken belt in one of the rear tires... If you swap the rear tires (just for testing) it would likely reverse the symptoms. What you'd have to do is take one of the rears off and put a front on the rear to determine which tire is damaged...

If that's the case I would think swapping the rear right-to-left would be better. Swapping front to rear would result in some peculiar handling!

Thanks everyone... will check pressures tonite and report back.
