The next person that mentions TIRES gets a flamethrower to the head

Again, I have three sets of wheels now and have had two other sets on the car in the last 3 years. All of them did the same thing, even stock rims and tires.

For me it's not tires, rims, rotors, calipers, half-shafts, cv joints or the differential. They have all been replaced. We rotated the drive shaft and used new bolts on the driveshaft when i replaced the diff. Not that either.

One set of tires i have flatspot pretty badly but that's a whole different vibration for only a mile or two.

My vibration can be felt more in the pedals and my seat than the steering wheel. When my hardtop is installed, the vibration goes away. My comptech STB and Digrappa X brace make no difference on the vibration either. I've had the car in the air and have retourqed just about everything i could reach to factory spec. Nothing was loose anyway.

When others drive my car they don't notice it by themselves and when i tell them i can feel it, they don't. Maybe we are all crazy.

I figure I will chime in on this thread. I've been following it for a while and I've noticed that no one has tried putting in new engine or transmission mounts. It looks like everyone has thought about it at one point or another but I can't find anything that says someone has tried it. Xviper actually makes a pretty reasonable argument for it if you look on page 3 of the thread.

I don't have this problem with my S2000, but I know of many instances in other cars where strange vibrations have been fixed by changing the mounts. Maybe someone has already given it a shot and if so, I would like to hear the results.

If no one has tried it, then why not? Mounts are cheap, much cheaper than replacing tires, cv joints, or a differential.

I'll give the dealership a call to see what they can do on a new set of engine mounts, if the cost isnt wallet-rapping then they might be worth a shot.

Ubetit, you mentioned the vibration goes away with a hard-top...hmm...I wonder if I can have a custom brace installed (or even a roll-bar setup) that would mimic the added stiffness from using a hardtop.

I dono if youre still experiencing the issue, but I had a similar issue on my 02 GPW, all I did was lower the pressure, slightly, yet safely on the rear tires, and the vibration went away... its worth a try, and if you feel like performance driving, then add some air

ok guys I have a FIX for this problem

I had the same problem for the last yr and just to say it pissed me off.
I broke my rear end and replaced that. that didn't fix the vibration. so its not the rear end

but just 2 weeks ago I got some new tires for the rear and since I had to rims off I torqued the axle but like shit with my snap on impact (I read before on here that can also cause the problem)

and now I have no vibration at all
I don't know if it was the alxe nut or the new tires. but I think it was the axle nut it seemed not tight at all. so tight it up and see if that does it.. nothing to lose there. its size 36 socket if I remember correctly.

hope it works out for you guys like it did for me

Still having issue? I find I have the same issue when I drive between those speeds on the certain section of grooved pavement on 95N in Jacksonville. Never fails, hot or cold, wet, dry, has always shaken badly. 15 miles later on new pavement, it goes away. Are you driving the same trac of pavement? Just a thought...
