Default Question about replacing clutch

Hi,

When replacing just the clutch friction disk, do I have to buy a throwout bearing and/or flywheel pilot bearing and have them replaced? I had my clutch replaced about 25k miles ago and had the throwout bearing replaced at that time. Thanks.

I would go ahead a replace them while you have it apart. I have never seen the pilot bearing wear out, and the release (TO) bearing can have a long or sometimes shorter life depending upon your use. It is such a hassle to get back in there that I would replace them with 25K on them, but it is not unheard of for them to go over 100K without problems.

Yes, definately repalce them, they are kinda cheap I want to think. Mine were like 35.00 or maybe cheaper for both when I changed out my clutch.

I know this sounds retarded, but I swapped a clutch out on another S2000, and.... well.. what is a pilot bearing?

It is the bearing that is pressed into the center of the FW; the end of the mainshaft is stabilized on it.

If you're changing out the clutch ... change out the throwout bearing, pressure plate bolts, have the flywheel removed and inspect the rear main seal, and why not change out the pilot bearing while the pilot bearing is out. This would also be a good time to consider changing out your flywheel and upgrade your pressure plate. I've tried both the Toda flywheel and Mugen pressure plate combo and the Comptech with the ACT. The stock disk is probably the best for everything short of circuit racing or drag racing. The Comptech + ACT (+stock disk) is the best I've experienced. I had problems with the Toda + Mugen setup though (the only one that I know of having this problem though). Additionally, if you pull the flywheel, CHANGE the flywheel bolts. It all adds up to piece of mind down the road.
