Default Question about top end...

I was wondering what this means: I used to get to about 82mph in 3rd gear, but now that I have an exhaust, i can get all the way to 89mph. What does this mean? Does this mean I have more HP in the top end?

We should also start a post where people list their mods and what they can top out at in 3rd. Just a thought.

It is physically impossible to go faster in each gear because you potentially have more power. Your top speed in each gear is simply determined by your gear ratios.

You could have 1000 more HP but still only hit 82 mph in 3rd. The difference is that you're gonna get there faster.

Whats your point? It WILL go 88 at the top of 3rd. I don't know the exact speed but I've hit 140 kph in 3rd a few times.

There is lag time in the S2000 speedo. ie. It takes a second or two for the speedo to actually catch up to the road speed so if you are not waiting the same amount of time from one event to another, you cannot be sure what your reading is. 9000 rpm in 3rd should get you 89 mph by an "outside" measuring device. Your car's speedo may or may not be accurate or consistent with other S2000's.
What koala said is bang on. You could have unlimited HP, if all else (wheels, tires, gearing) remain the same, when you get to 9000 rpm, your car will be travelling at 89 mph.
