Default Question on differential fluids

Hi everyone,

I'm new to all of this & am looking for advice.

What differential fluid do you recommend for an S? Mine is an '02 w/100k miles on it.

Thank you!

ive heard amsoil, royal purple, mobil 1 and some other racing gear oil (forgot the name). but i think what you are really asking is which is cheaper because doesnt matter which of those you get, they all still do the same thing...

but personally id no mobil 1! easy to find at auto stores and cheap!

+1

and as masterforce said, the mobil1 is cheap too.

my rear diff seems ok. the rubbing noise when making sharp, tight slow turns isn't as prominant now!

That depends, where do u live? If you're in the 70-100 degree F range in the summer then I would recommend Amsoil 75w140. People get freaked out by the 140 rating but I did a quick plot in Excel and it's actually thinner than LE1605 110 weight until about 90 degrees C. OEM is approximately 20 cSt at 100 deg C, a straight 110 weight. Mobil 1 75w90 is a very thin 90 weight at 100 deg C at only 15.2 cSt. I would only recommend that for the winter. If you drive your car very lightly, live in a cooler climate, and are trying to maximize fuel economy then I would still recommend the Amsoil 75w110. That starts out way thinner than the oem fluid and hits 20.4 cSt at 100 deg C. The trick to buying a multi weight is that you want the fluid to have about the same viscosity as the OEM fluid in the diff's normal operating range, which is somewhere between the 40 and 100 deg C ratings.

Mobil 1 75w-90 LS ... available at Advanced Auto Parts, Pep Boys .... $10.99 per quart (you need 1 quart). While you are buying the diff oil,,, buy a gear oil lube pump ......
CLICK HERE ... you can use if for the tranny fluid too (Honda Manual Transmission Fluid available at your Honda Dealer or Hardtopguy.com $6.20 to $8 per quart --- you'll need 2 quarts)

I got a pump for the diff with a coupon at harbor freight.....originally $10, but if you can find the coupon, it's $3!!!! Worked super good too... One hose in diff fill hole, one in the bottle, then pump. Worked amazingly LOL

Klotz with the hyploid addative. I have always used a fluid with a hyploid addative in all of my cars that had a gear driven differential

i dont think anyone on this site would disagree that puddymod knows his shit when it comes to differentials. that beign said, here is what he reccomended to me when i asked him

[QUOTE]
70% Lucas 80/90 gear oil and 30% Lucas oil stabilizer with anti shock, use this oil in the rear.
The stabilizer will keep the oil stabile at 90W and the anti shock helps keep the oil from braking down to fast.
