Ardy, what wheels do you have that might have the rubbing problem?

I think with stiffer springs, I can go a little lower with the Spoon wheels, and perhaps as low as the S2000 could or should go as well (I hope). Also, it seems the front fender lip cannot be rolled, whereas the back probably can be.

 

running spoon wheels as well, 35mm offset in the front.

 

Update: I was able to change the coilovers this weekend. Disconnecting the upper A-arms where they connect to the body was very easy to do and effective. The stock springs indeed are under very little tension at full suspension extension. Lowering the car while increasing spring and damper rates does not lead to more tire rub, though it would, I think, if the springs, etc., were same rate as stock (Spoon wheels).

 

Prolene, how much did you lower it?

 

I didn't change the out of box settings for the new Mugen/Showa units. The back tire, fender gap was cut in half by almost 1 1/2" of lowering and front was lowered about 3/4". I think stock, my car was sitting unusually high at the back, maybe due some to the lighter exhaust? Now the back gap is just a little under 2 finger gap and front a little over 2 finger gap.

Prolene, I don't think rolling the back fender would do you any good as your wheels stick out beyond the fender.

 

my guess is, you don't have it lowered as much as me, hopefully on compression bumps, you wont experience any rubbing on the front when entering a turn while braking.

 

I'm afraid that as of yet, most of my braking gets done before turnin, but that is something to consider.

 

I rubbed mine when I had the Showa shocks on my car at -2in hitting a bump at mid turn. With a +35 offset I think you'll need very smooth surfaces...

Let us know your impressions on the Showa units. I had to let mine go, just did not think a lot about them, really. But I have seen people swearing by them and others that did as I did.

BTW, and this is a question for all owners of small offset a/m wheels, I am curious to know what you feel as a result of using these wheels... With the spoon wheels that's a whole 2cms you get of additional positive scrub radius, and that surely has to have some sort of an impact.
