Default Question on Maintenance

ok I have a 2000 S2000, just got it, and everything is fine. The Stealership told me that they have just change the oil and all that good stuff, but the only problem is...(I have driven the car for 1000 miles now) There is a maintenance required light that was previously flashing, but now it is on all the time. I looked it up in the manual to see if I could reset it. The manual says to turn the key to the LOCK position, and hold the Trip button until the maintenance required light resets. I followed the instructions the best I could, and the light is still on. Could anyone give me some helpful advice in getting this light to turn off?

Any help would be great! Thanks!

The MR light is just on a timer, dealer probably did not reset.

Make sure you hold the trip BEFORE inserting and turning the key. It will work, read the manual a little closer.

FWIW, my dealer told me they changed my fluids, I changed them anyhow as I did not believe them and guess who was right? Me I would up getting a pair of S02s out of their lies.

Yeah I will try that now, hopefuly it will work, the manual does not say much about IMO. Yeah I am deff going to change the oil next week because you can never trust the Stealerships.

ok well I tried it, and it didnt work out. This is the exact instruction the manual tells me to do.

"To reset the Maintenance required indicator, turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position, then press and hold the trip meter reset button until the indicator resets."

The only thing I dont get about the instructions is that the key is turned to the "Lock" position right when you insert the key into the steering column. so I dont see why it says "turn"

I really whant to do this myself so I dont have to take it to a dealership to get it reset. Please help me.

I think he is on to something here . Just be sure it is the MIL light and not the CEL light (maintenance vs. Check engine). I don't recall the MIL flashing before a hard set point (i.e. an early warning). Please be sure it is MIL!!! A flkashing CE:L light is a very bad thing (like major misfiring which can cause major damage). That being said, and hoping you have a MIL; I would check the "new oil". An easy way is just to wipe the dipstick on a white rag. It is pretty easy to tell new oil.....

2poor2mod!

You solved my problem!

The indicator light turned off just how I wanted it to.

Thanks so much to everyone!

Sorry for the delay......

If you have a MIL:
Push and hold the trip button, turn the ignition switch ON (II), and hold for MORE THEN 10 seconds..

Blink Pattern:
At 5,900 to 6,100 miles the MIL will blink when the ignition switch is ONII.

At 7,400-7,600 the MIL will come on and remain illuminated ( I stand corrected to my earlier post...MIL does indeed blink).
