Default Question on startup

The last handful of times I’ve started my AP1 (00) it has stumbled and then recovered. Drives normal, this only happens on start up. What do you think? Plugs? Wires? Let me know…

Is your car still on the original fuel pump relay? I wonder, mine looked like crap after 23 years, and the car worked fine until like 3 months ago. You could have a failing connection on your fuel pump relay and never even realize it until the car starts shutting off on you and starts idling and driving funny.

This is what the contact looked like on my fuel pump relay, and it was making my car shut off. It was the original one, it was probably this bad for a while, but it only started giving me issues now. Maybe you should check yours and resolder any bad connections. I honestly wonder how many issues on people's cars this could fix.

Things affected by the fuel pump relay
Water temp sensor
Intake air temp sensor
Idle air control valve
fuel pressure
knock sensor

All of those things affect engine performance, whether idling or gunning it.

I wonder what Billman has seen over the years.

Has there been a significant drop in temps in your area?

I've noticed on my S that when the temps drop, the start up will be a little rough, but after a few seconds it perks up and runs normally.

Especially if the battery is borderline old.
