Default Questions about installing AP2 Tail Lights

Hey guys, my car recently got broken into and my tail lights were stolen. I have new AP2 tail lights ordered coming in tomorrow and was wondering if it is a fairly easy install to do yourself. I've never installed these before and couldn't find a DIY thread or anything. I'm hoping it will be pretty straightforward.. Any words of advice?

Nothing easy about it. you need to cut part of the body away from the car. The connectors are different as well.

Should I take it to be installed professionally? I was hoping there was a DIY and not too difficult, or maybe I'm just over thinking it?

You have an ap2 though right? You just got new replacement tails to replace yours I thought. If your just replacing your ap2 tails with new ones then install will be very simple. There are like 4 small nuts if I remember right, nothing crazy at all. Just pop up the trunk carpet behind the taillights, then take the taillight (make sure foam gasket is on it so you don't have any leaks) and slip it on so all the studs coming off of the taillight go into the holes in the car. Go to the inside of the trunk where you pulled back the carpet and put the nuts on the studs and tighten, I think they are like 8mm if I remember right. Then simply plug them in. Should only take like 10 minutes to install both since you already don't have any tails on it.

For ap1's it's a whole nother story. I did this on my ap1 and it is a PITA to do since you have to cut some metal out of the car to get them to fit, then either modify your connectors or get the ap2 harness to plug them in. I soldered in an ap2 harness so I didn't have to mess with all of the connectors and they plugged right into the tails.

^^this, very easy seeing that you're just replacing them on an ap2

Thanks you guys, and especially suzuka.. you've been real helpful man you helped me install my hardtop as well lol I really appreciate it. So this morning I installed the tail lights, and yes my car is an AP2 so it was fairly easy as described. The only kinda weird thing though was that there were very little gaps around the edge of the tails, and I don't remember if there were originally supposed to be seals or not.
