OEM is ALWAYS the way to go for the sake of longevity. The time and mileage in this thread proves that. Only upgrade radiators if looking for better performance, but for the sake of replacement? OEM.

To give a little of the other side to this thread, I replaced my OEM radiator that also split along the top with a Mishimoto aluminum radiator and it has been working great for me. I've had no issues with AC and if anything, it cools a little too much in colder weather and I end up blocking off part of the radiator to keep temps proper if I go out for a cold fall drive. Otherwise, fitment and function are just fine.

I would not call having to cover part of it for cooler weather functioning properly. Around here, even with mine being stored in the winter, I autox in temps down in the 30's and sometimes below in spring and late fall. I would be pretty pissed if I had to cover up part of my aftermarket radiator for it to come up to proper temp. Not that it matters for me, since street touring classes require basically an OEM equivalent radiator, but for people who drive in winter climates they want something that is designed properly for their car.

That^ is most likely the thermostat not functioning properly.

Temp sensor on the radiator is different to the coolant temp sensor on the block. Most OBD2 tools just give you radiator temp read out, not the coolant temp on the block.

There is only one coolant temp sensor and it's mounted on the intake manifold just after the head.
The radiator has only a temp switch which is either open or closed.

I'm just waiting for the ticking time bomb for my original OEM rad to crack. I'm debating whether between the Koyo 36mm Hyper or the really pretty Origin Fab.

Requirements is it has to plug in play with fitment and use OEM fans.

Yep! The engine is unopened, runs great, no oil consumption. Tranny is also original. I shredded the differential, and I also had to replace the AC compressor and alternator. I also replaced the exhaust with a Mugen and a Berk Hi Flow cat as soon as I drove it home from the dealer. The exhaust still sounds great!

I live in central TX and go out to northern CA a lot! Many of the miles are highway. I know the engine will go one day. I love this car so much that I have a new factory shortblock and a head waiting in a spare room for that day.

Take care!

I have to shut it off every once in a while to change oil. I have done 123 oil changes thus far. I know I go way overboard but I use Amsoil and change the oil and filter every 3000 miles. It still runs great with almost no oil consumption. (Maybe 1/2 a quart every 3000 miles.)

The really crazy thing is that I have two MR2's that I drive as well (a W20 and a W30). I do not, however, drive them anywhere near as much as the S!

Take Care!
