Default Random Misfire codes

Got a free read at AutoZone for my check engine light and it said "random misfire."

Assuming it's not the MAF sensor, and assuming the sparkplugs are still okay (I have 50k on the car, shouldnt be shot yet!) what do you think the problem is? I don't wanna spend tons of money because I am on a LOW budget.

Rick Hesel had this sort of issue for many, many months. They changed all kinds of stuff and he was still getting these codes. I believe they finally gave him a new ECU and this corrected his problem.
ps. I'm not saying this is what your problem is but just relating another similar case.

A quick way to check out the ECU would be to find someone you can swap with for a while...

Unfortunately, if this is the problem, a low budget isn't gonna fix it (new ECU = not inexpensive)

xviper is right. I had this problem since before last October, and it was driving me crazy, since the local dealers could not fix it. In the end, a new ECU solved the problem. But hardtopguy (where the problem was finally fixed), also replaced the injectors and reset the valve clearances, just for safety's sake.

My car has been in Cleveland since Feb 7 for this work to be done (along with the 4.57 gear install and a few other things), and I'm flying out there tomorrow night to pick it up and drive it back home. It will be great to get behind the wheel again

BTW, this is quite a common problem based on the number of posts I've seen, and it seems that fixing it is beyond the capabilities of most Honda service departments.

Thanks! If I need the ECU, I'll be in touch. I'm having somebody look at it again. Hopefully I won't need anymore advice.

I appreciate it, man!
