Default Rattle from Rear when Top Up

When driving over slightly rough surfaces with the top up, I get a loud, intermittant rattle. The sound is quite loud and sounds like metal against metal or metal against glass tapping (usually occurs in groups, three to six per group). It sounds appears to be coming from just behind my left shoulder and just over the right passenger shoulder. I've searched thoroughly through the forum, but I haven't found any solutions pertaining to this particular noise.

I've ruled out the following:
1) Loose spare tire nut
2) Seat belt rattle
3) Front latches (TSB eliminated that noise)

Does anyone else experience this noise? Has anyone identified the source? Any solutions?

i have that problem, usually when the weather gets colder than 60-70 degrees F. with the top up, if you tug back and forth (side to side relative to the car facing forward) on the metal, you'll probably hear and feel a squeak of some sort. for me, this is what rattles when i go over uneven bumps.

i've sprayed WD40 on the joints of the top structure and the sound pretty much goes away. i'm guessing you could also probably rub some lithium grease on it as well.

good luck! the rattles are annoying.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I should have mentioned that I have had TSB 09-033 performed which completely eliminated the noises associated with the latches.

I had a roof issue which was less a rattle and more a thud:

Might help some.

As for the fishing wire technique, might have to have a look into that or get dealer to warranty it.

You may have a gremlin J/k check behind your carpet trunk on the left of the front of trunk you or someone else may have dropped something in there that rattles when the top is up.

I am also trying to figure out this exact same thing I was just searching the forum. Mine happens with the top up and seems to be coming from the passenger side area. Seems like its coming from the tray area but as I tap around I have not found anything. My spare was a bit loose and I cranked it down so I will have to see if this it but I doubt it.
